Baseball Season Begins!

This is Collin's first year of kid's pitch baseball.  We heard to get ready for less hitting but more stealing of bases because the kids don't hit as much so they have to steal bases to earn runs.  This usually results in a lower scoring game as well.  The important positions are still 1st base but now catcher is really important because the catcher can make a difference in how many runs come in or not.

Last night, Collin's team, the Astros, had their first pre-season game.  I was interested to see how well they played together as a team because they seem to play well and have good baseball skills.  Also, the team has at least four really good pitchers.  I assume this is a really good thing.  We also have a REALLY good catcher.  The boys playing the in field so far are the older, 4th grade boys and the bigger, 3rd grade boys.  Collin played each position in the outfield and did not have any balls hit to him while he was out there.  One time, he should have backed up 3rd base but didn't.  This allowed the other team to earn a run when the ball was overthrown to 3rd.  At the end, the game was tied 5 to 5.  Overall, the boys played really well together for their first game especially after having a week off for Spring Break and not practicing in over a week.

There is another pre-season game tomorrow night before the team has their first game next Wednesday night.  Go Astros!
