Pacers Losing Streak

The Pacers continue to lose sometimes only scoring single-digit point during a game.  However, the last two games, Collin has really improved. He got multiple rebounds and even took the ball from one side of the court to the other. Several of the times on the opposing side, he blocked the ball from one of the taller kids on the team.  He scored twice; once during each game.  He also drew out several technical fouls which we thought was great as well because it showed him being aggressive and really getting in there to try to get the ball. We told him how proud we were of him and noticed him stepping up during the game.  He listened but said that it was because Cullen was not at the game so he was able to step in to his place and we noticed our son moore because Cullen was not there taking the ball as much. Whatever the reason, it’s nice to see Collin get his head into the game and show what he really is capable of.

One Sick Kid

I didn’t post last week because Collin started feeling ill late Saturday night last week.  He woke me up around 4 AM saying that he threw up and asking if I could help him clean it up. Bless his heart!  He threw up a few more times early Sunday morning but not again for the rest of the time he felt sick. Not sure what it was and why he felt terrible but he ended up not going to school until Friday. He had a slight fever for the first few days but no other symptoms. For the first few days, he slept most of the day.  Once he went back to school on Friday, he’s felt fine since them. We had a busy weekend making up school work and sports.

I’m so glad he’s feeling better! I really don’t like seeing my little guy feel terrible like that.

Pacers Lose, But Good Game

The Pacers lost their basketball game last night. It was as a frustratating game because the Refs were calling a lot more fouls than previous games so it was hard for the boys to get get in a groove and make plays. Collin did get a few rebounds, made several shots and did make a basket once. That’s more action for him so o was happy to see that. I especially liked that all of this was on the side of the court were I was sitting. Dad was scoring the game for the team like he always does when we are Home.

Hot, Freezing, Rain and then Hot Again

What a week!  I was in shorts Monday night covering the plants before the ice storm came in the next morning...and it sure did!  The schools were closed while we had 30 or below weather of ice and snow. This lasted through Thursday morning. For the two days the kids were out of school, we stayed inside because it was so cold. I had to work so I did make Collin write or read a littl in the home offic with me. So mean, right?!?!

He also had friends come over or he went to their house. We did open a few stocking stuffers he had not had a chance to open yet. One was a crystal making kit. Might have been too cold to do but we did it anyway ... and no crystals so far. 😢

When it was time to go back to school, everyone was ready. Even though it was 26 degrees, Collin “forgot” to wear his jacket and chose to wear shorts. Dad would have made him change but he was already volunteering as the Crossing Guard. Look, there is still some snow on the ground and my smart child is dressed for Spring.

Scout Sleepover - Flight Museum Style

Annually, the Cub scouts spend the evening at a museum of some kind. It’s something The boys look forward to in the parents know that they are not going to get any sleep. I actually was looking forward to this event because the museum is one of a kind. Also, this was the first time this particular museum posted an event like this so we were the first ones to experience it.

We arrived at 6 PM to start the evening which was full of planned activities. After a presentation about being a leader and the qualities of being a leader, the boys learned about the phonetic alphabet for pilots. They did a really fun game which included using th Alphabet to spell their name and word search. Collin is:

  • Charlie
  • Oscar
  • Lima
  • Lima
  • India
  • November

Next, we had pizza which was welcome because we were all very hungry at that time. Then, we split into smaller groups. The first activity for our group was to make an airplane out of a Styrofoam plate. The boys cut it out and then practice for a period of time before they went to the second floor and got to throw the paper airplane from there to one of the large plane hangers in the museum.

Next, boys experience the interactive part of the museum where they got to simulate hand gliding, airflow around plane wings, gravity, and other interactive examples.

Then, we went to one of the hangers and learned about the planes they had. Some had flown in WWII even. The pilot was very informative and the boys paid more attention than I expected.

The last activity was flight simulation. The Adult got to go first while the kids watch a movie, Planes, in the other room.  The simulation was much harder than I thought! Every time he removed all the instruments made a huge difference.

Finally at midnight, it was time to get our sleeping bags out and go to sleep. We got sleep in one of the hangers so it was pretty cool!

We all had a great time. What a fun, memorable event. Now...I need a nap!

Breakfast Kid

Call and has always been a big breakfast eater. He recently discovered how much he loves a croissant egg sandwich.  He now wants to eat these for breakfast and even for dinner. When he it’s his turn to select where we go to eat, I’m not too surprised that it’s either Mexican food or a place that serves breakfast croissants 24/7.  He does look happy eating it though doesn’t he?  This is one meal that he finishes every time.

Report Card - 2nd 9 Weeks

We received Collin’s second report card and it’s no surprise that the grades did drop just like they always have at this time every year.  He did start out stronger at the first part of the year so the grades dropping, and they didn’t drop by much, are still really good grades, especially for him. The only grade that did increase was Spelling going from 95 to a 100. The 95 was actually low for him because he generally has 100s the entire year.

The comments about his conduct were also not surpring. He continues to talk and is distracted which I’m sure played a role in the decrease in his grades. The teacher also made a comment about his writing which I don’t recall seeing before.  At least he has a good attitude!

When we talked to him about his grades that evening, he showed no concern for the decrease in the grades and didn’t provide any solutions for how he could do better, especially on the talking and being distracted.  These challenges of distraction and talking or not new for him. Suggestions last year for bringing a wiggle seat to help him concentrate did help last year but he is not interested at all in bringing the wiggle seat this year. I’m assuming that it’s because it brings attention to him which he hates. I still tried to encourage him to bring the seat thinking that might help him.

Because the grades did not decline too much and his Reading score is better than it has been in the prior year, we definitely will continue to have him meet with the tutor twice a week. We had just gotten started during the last report card so we should be able to see how much progress he makes over the next 9 week report period.

“You are so cute!”

Tonight, Collin told me that he is really getting tired of people telling me that he has nice hair, great eyes or that he is really cute. Hi asked if it bothered him. He said that he is just tired of h wring about it all the time. I asked if he thought it was true and he said he did not care.

Ha!  If he only knew people are not just being nice. He really IS all of those things. I mean, look at him. So cute!!!

Basketball Season - 4th Grade Version

Because Collin likes basketball, we signed him up for another season. It works out well because it’s between football and a Spring sport and it’s a short season. I say “Spring sport” because Collin has played baseball in the past but will be playing lacrosse for the first time in the Spring.

The first hour practices were right before the holidays and only a few team members were able to attend. We did have one practice before our first game which was last night. The other team looked so much bigger and taller than our boys so I thought they were in for long game. They actually handle themselves really well, ran back-and-forth quickly, and were aggressive with the rebounds. Collin was at the free throw line at one point but did not make a basket. Later he said that he was not nervous at all. For most of the game, the teams were pretty close in score. However, during the last five minutes of the game I could tell they were getting tired and the other team started scoring more. The final score was 26 - 17.

Happy New Year

What a year 2017 was! We are looking forward to what 2018 brings. Hopefully not as much water as last year.  :)
