Bear Cub Scout

Collin enjoyed Cub Scouts so much last year that he could not wait to get started again.  Because of football, he was not able to attend the first two months of meetings.  Football came first because he did not want to let the team down...and he understood that.

For his first meeting, he learned the safety rules for using a knife and carved a ghost (this was in October and close to Halloween) out of a bar of soap.

He obviously needs to repeat the safety rules because that is NOT how he is supposed to hold a knife

He is halfway through carving the soap.  I can kind of see the ghost forming.

Here is the Bear Den carving outside so they don't make such a big mess.
His homework was to carve another item.  He choose a large stick to make a walking stick for the camp out that was scheduled for December (it rain out so we did not go).  He did a really good job making the stick come to a point on one end and got tired before finishing the handle.  It was good enough to him to show his Den Leader and earn his whittling chip and patch.  Good work Collin!
