Collin and I ran another 5K this Saturday. Well, we ran 2 miles and then walked the rest. I was impressed that he ran as far as he did this time compared to the last 5K.....AND, more importantly, he did not complain about running. He got out there and could not wait for the race to start. It was a chilly morning of 42 degrees. There was frost on the ground which got his attention halfway through the race. He wanted to know what caused frost and if it was cold. This started him walking over to the grass to touch the frost and compare it to the prior touch to see if it was cold or not. He thought ti was great that it was really cold and melted right away in his warm hands.
As we were running to the finish line, he wanted to know if our names were going to be called like the other runner's names were. I said they probably would be because our race numbers had our names on them and the announcer could read them. So...he was really excited to hear both of our names as we crossed the finish line together. He got his medal, some bottled water and was ready to eat.
The finish was near the local baseball stadium. When he saw that we could go inside, he wanted to sit in the seats instead of eating right away. He just sat there and looked around. Fortunately, we were not in too much of a hurry that morning. He then decided he was hungry but did not want to wait in the line. Thank you!! I was even more cold now because the sweat was keeping me chilly.
Would you believe the kid ran all the way back to the car? The energy......
