Vacation and a Half Marathon

Instead of triathlon's, I am focused on more running this year.  My goal is to run in at least 4 half marathons.  I ran one in February and my second was on April 19th.  Instead of running in town, I signed up for a race out of town so we could have a mini-vacation before the race.

We picked Collin up from school and headed out of town.  That night, we walked along the beach, checked out some of the shops in old downtown, and ate dinner.  Back at the hotel, Collin and Daddy explored the hotel while I rested.

The next day, we went to Moody Gardens and saw all of the sights the place offered.  Our favorite was the Rainforest Pyramid.  Collin loved looking at the different animals and I liked the different flowers and plants.  Daddy was just happy to be with us.  At one point, a monkey got VERY friendly with us.  We stood watching the monkey run up and down the path trying to get us to play with him....or so we thought.  Was he was really doing was trying to get another monkey to come out of hiding.  He eventually did and ran right over my feet which scared the poop out of me.  I screamed a little and Collin thought that was hilarious.

My favorite little guy.  Love him so much!

Snake!  Collin is smiling because he knows how much I DON'T like snakes
Throughout the hotel, there were different animal habitats.  Collin had to see the one with the alligators about 6 times before we went to our room for the night.  After looking at all of the exhibits and watching an shark 3D movie, the boys went swimming while I sat by the pool and read a book.

That night, the hotel was hosting Prom Night.  We had fun, or at least I did, sitting by the front door watching the students come in and commenting on what they were wearing.  Collin learned about what prom was and why the kids were all dressed up.  About an hour later, we were up in our room watching a fantastic lightening storm when the lights in the entire hotel went out. We sat at the window watching the prom attendees exit the back of the building in the storm.  By the time the storm was over, all of the pool chairs were in the pool.  Collin had no idea how powerful the wind could be and have several questions about how the wind was able to pick up the chairs.  We were all surprised to see the chairs back where they should be an hour later.  The hotel staff was prompt with cleaning up the property.

The next morning, a friend picked me up to head to the half marathon while the boys slept in.  Because of all of the rain, it was a muggy, HOT morning which made the run challenging.  I did feel really good until Mile 10.  I pushed it to Mile 11.5 and then had to walk.  I really did not want to because I was not sure if I would be able to run  again when I got close to Finish Line.  I did start running again a mile away.  That finish line looked GREAT.  I was so happy to be finished.  My time was 2 hours 22 minutes which was not bad.  I had hoped to be closer to 2 hours but I was happy with this time considering the weather.  I was also SO happy to see my boys at the end of the race.  They missed me crossing the finish line by 2 minutes.  I did not care...at least they were there to give me a hug....and hold me up when I started to feel weak and thought I might faint.  Collin was eating a donut and shared his donut holes with me.  This helped so much.....and I did not faint.

We left the race, went back to the hotel to get cleaned up and then headed home.  What a great weekend!
