Collin did not play AT ALL the first two quarters. Even though he was standing by the coach and ready to go, they didn't put him in. Dad and I were getting a little concerned and… upset. We had both asked the coach how Collin was doing during practices and he said fine and there wasn't anything else he needed to work on. Then, why not put him in?
During the 3rd quarter, we were happy to see that coach finally put Collin (#4) in. However, it was short-lived because we noticed he put him in on the defense of line. Really, you can't put a 68 pound kid on the line tackling 110+ pound kids? Plus, he has never practiced this position before. He has always practiced Safety and running with the ball. Why is coach putting the fast, small kid on the defense of line? Collin did fairly well based on not practicing and just natural ability. We noticed that he did his blocking and immediately ran after the ball which is not what the position is supposed to do but that's what Collin wants to do and that's what he's practiced. Coach made comments to Collin and our only assumption is that he was telling Collin not to run after the ball and pointers.
They Warriors did win 6 - 0 and the team was happy with their win. After the game, Collin said how much she really liked playing on the defensive of line. I was happy that he did not say anything about not playing the first half of the game and he did like the position he played. Oh, to be oblivious to what just happpened! Another coach called Dad because he saw what happened and knew we would be upset. We chose to let it ride and see what happens during the next game which is next Saturday.
