Collin's 10 Year Check Up

This afternoon, we had Collin's 10 year old checkup.  He is 4'5" which puts him in the 25 percentile for his age, he is 71 pounds 8 oz which puts him in the 51 percentile of his age group and his BM I is at 70 percentile for his age group. Therefore, he's pretty consistent with where he is been since he was an infant as far as in the percentiles.

It was time for his flu shot and he was pretty worried about how it would feel and ended up not feeling it at all when the nurse gave it to him. He did have to have blood drawn as recommended to test for cholesterol. We did ask several questions about if this was necessary even if there was not a family history of a problem. The doctor recommended we do it as a baseline now and when he's 13. He let out a little "ouch" when she first correct him to draw the blood and then thought it was really cool to watch the blood go into the vile which distracted him from what was really going on.  I was pretty proud of him because I can't stand shots!

The blood work came back resulting in a slightly elevated cholesterol of 195 and they would like it closer to 175. However his good cholesterol is 60 and it should be over 45.  The nurse said continue to have Collin exercise and to eat a variety of healthy foods.

We did get a recommendation of which neurologist to call to follow up on his testing we did a few weeks back. We are still waiting for the final report, however, we suspect that it will come back that he has ADHD.

Kid's Cooking Class - School Lunch

Tonight, Collin went to a cooking class hosted by somebody that lives in the neighborhood. She owns her own cooking business ran out of her home. I saw someone post about this and how much fun her boys had last week so I thought it would be fun for Collin to attend. He does like to help me cook especially baking banana bread. I was also interested in him finding other things that he likes to eat for school lunches.

When I first talked about the class, he wasn't quite sure if he wanted to go or not. He said he likes to cook but he wasn't sure about going to the class. I showed him some pictures on Facebook of the kids that went last week and he said go ahead and sign him up. He did want to know if he would be the only boy or if there would be at least another boy there....and there was!

We got there a little bit early to pick Collin up, and we were happy to see that he was very involved in the cooking. He was very talkative to the boy next to him showing him how to wrap up the chicken wrap.  At the end, we grabbed up the for lunches that he made and headed to the car. Walking to the car, he wanted to know what was on our schedule next Sunday because he wants us to sign him up again. He was excited to tell me about the California roll he made and how much she likes crab sticks. He made chicken wraps, chicken quinoa salad, California rolls, and homemade Lunchables as the main meal. He loved the idea of ants on a log wanted to show me what it looked like. Some of the other sides were carrots and hummus, chocolate covered pretzels, and shaped fruit. He helped me organize the lunches and write on each of them which day he was going to eat them this week.

Stay tuned to see how it goes and how much he eats what he made.

Football Pictures 🏈

Today was Picture day for the Warriors. I was impressed that all of the boys showed up. There is usually one team member that can't make it for one reason or another.

Aren't they at good-looking team?

Football scrimmage #2 – Warriors lose

The Warriors played even better on their second scrimmage against probably the best team in the league. The second half of the game was much better than the first half with the boys really figuring out the plays. Collin played on the line in the A Gap position and was so close to tackling the quarterback twice. We were just happy to see him playing more than the last game.

Next Saturday, starts the first real game of the season. Go Warriors!!

Football scrimmage - Warriors win!

Last night, the Warriors had their first scrimmage for football opening season day. The game was delayed 2 hours because the games previously had been running long or went into overtime. So, we hung out longer than we expected to before the game finally started at 6 PM.

Collin did not play AT ALL the first two quarters. Even though he was standing by the coach and ready to go, they didn't put him in. Dad and I were getting a little concerned and… upset. We had both asked the coach how Collin was doing during practices and he said fine and there wasn't anything else he needed to work on. Then, why not put him in?

During the 3rd quarter, we were happy to see that coach finally put Collin (#4) in. However, it was short-lived because we noticed he put him in on the defense of line. Really, you can't put a 68 pound kid on the line tackling 110+ pound kids?  Plus, he has never practiced this position before. He has always practiced Safety and running with the ball.  Why is coach putting the fast, small kid on the defense of line?  Collin did fairly well based on not practicing and just natural ability. We noticed that he did his blocking and immediately ran after the ball which is not what the position is supposed to do but that's what Collin wants to do and that's what he's practiced. Coach made comments to Collin and our only assumption is that he was telling Collin not to run after the ball and pointers.

They Warriors did win 6 - 0 and the team was happy with their win.  After the game, Collin said how much she really liked playing on the defensive of line.  I was happy that he did not say anything about not playing the first half of the game and he did like the position he played. Oh, to be oblivious to what just happpened! Another coach called Dad because he saw what happened and knew we would be upset. We chose to let it ride and see what happens during the next game which is next Saturday.

Football Season

After a 2 weeks delay, football season has started. Collin is on the Warriors with year along with 6 boys from his team last year. We LOVE the coaches and are looking forward to a fun season.

Here are some pictures from practice and a scrimmage. Collin is playing Safety again.

Mannequin Challenge?

Instead of staying at the house and playing with his friends, we took two to the park to play for about an hour before heading to the Mall. I had not been to the Mall in months so I thought it would be a fun changed on a hot day.

The kids played in the playground equipment for about 20 minutes before asking for my phone. I reluctantly gave it to Collin and said they could use it for 10 minutes. I then continued to read my book until he brought my phone back. He showed me what they did with the phone....posed for the camera and took some GREAT pictures. Don't you think?

After playing a little longer, we were all ready for some A/C so we headed to the Mall. First, we had lunch. The Mall was a perfect place for 3 picky kids to find something to eat. We each selected different places to get our food and then sat in the middle of the Food Court to eat and people-watch. We had some laughs counting how many times people stopped to eat a sample. There were more "Nos" u til the last 5 minutes.

After lunch, we walked around and ended up in a bid department store. Saige was th first to pretend to be a mannequin and then the other two quickly joined her. They were being quiet and having fun in an empty area of the store so they are not bothering anyone.:.amd they were doing a great job at being a mannequin too!

We all had a good time that afternoon and now I have some fun pictures to remember the day with.
