I was doing so good updating the blog and then....well, life happened. I traveled for a week for work and was busy with tax deadlines the week before that. I am so far behind now but wanted to mention a cute happening the other day.
Out of the blue, Collin asked for some mechanical pencils. We don't use them at the house so I wondered where this request was coming from. He said that several of his friends at school use them and he wanted to have some at school too. I found a few at the house and left them in his backpack to find the next day. That afternoon, he let me know how excited he was to find the pencils in his backpack. He said he needed some lead for the pencils and needed to go to Home Depot to buy the lead. I let him know that Home Depot is great but that Office Depot will likely have the pencil lead instead of Home Depot (OK, maybe just maybe Home Depot would too). I did buy a pack of 3 mechanical pencils that came with some lead. He later let me know that he has 0.5 and 0.7 lead pencils. He was excited that he had two different kinds.
When discussing what he wanted for Christmas, he said that he wanted all of the different kinds of mechanical pencils Target has...and that's it. Later, he added that he wants a kid's motorcycle like the one he road at our friend's country house last year during the Thanksgiving holiday. I knew that was memorable for him because he has talked about that day fairly regularly since then. I did let Santa know about this request but Collin will likely have to wait another year or longer for a motorcycle. The mechanical pencils are a more realistic, a MUCH less expensive, possibility for a Christmas gift.
