Where is the snow?

Collin was really looking forward to snow skiing while we were on vacacian this past week. Because he was sick, I had the cornea abrasions on my left eye, and the weather was a lot warmer than predicted, there was hardly any snow on the two slopes that were open on the ski mountain.  He was not too happy and I really can’t blame him. Once he finally feel better, we had two days of fun where we could get out and enjoy hiking, mountain bike riding, and just staring out at the beautiful scenery around the mountain house (aka “The Treehouse”.

This morning, we hiked a mountain bike trail to determine if it was a trail we could ride down later in the afternoon. Collin took a slingshot and had fun trying to shoot tree stumps and other objects. I gave it a shot and did not do too bad myself.

After hiking back to the house, we got ready to ride the trail that we just hiked. We drove up to the top of the trail and unloaded our bikes to ride down the trail. It was a lot more steep than I would’ve wanted it to be. Both Collin and I fell off our bikes but got back on and made it to the bottom of the trail. It really was fun and I was ready to do it again.  Because the truck was at the top of the trail, Dad and Collin drove in the four wheeler to get the truck and bring it back to start all over again. By the time they got back to the house, they were both too tired to do it again.

After resting a little bit, we ran some errands and then drove around the streets near the mountain house. We had no idea how much higher up the mountain was behind our house. The mountain house sits at around 8600 feet in elevation. We drove up to 9800 feet in elevation. There are so many street that still do not have houses built near them. That’s great for us because they’re so much more that can be developed. While driving around, I was in search for snow for Collin to play in one last time.  Close to the top of the mountain, I saw a frozen stream and tiny waterfall off to the side. I have Dad stop for Collin to play for a little bit. Hey cautiously walked on the frozen ice to see how thick it was. After determining that the ice was very thick, he picked up a large boulder and threw it to the ice. Shockingly, it did not crack at all!  He climbed around the freezing water and in the snow for a bit and had fun.  I was happy to see his smiling face. :)

While driving back to the house, we spotted at least 10 deer having dinner near one of the homes. They were not afraid of us at all you continue to eat while we watched them.

I was really disappointed that I was not well most of the trip and could not do more around the house. However, it’s a beautiful place to be sick in. The views are wonderful no matter what.

Bye Angel Fire!  Until next month…

Frozen Turkey Race

For our Thanksgiving trip to Angel Fire, we spent 3 days inside because Collin was sick when we arrived. We wanted him to get better so we could snow ski for a day or two. Then...we made a trip to Urgent Care for me because I had not one but 3 cornea abrasions on my left eye. I had to wear an eye patch for 48 hours and use antibiotic drops for 3-5 days. SO....at least we had a gorgeous view from inside the house while we stayed inside. We made the most of it by catching up on a lot of movies, playing games and walking Burke. We played at least three games of Monopoly and found out that Collin is a real estate mogul and quickly figured out that he needed to own Boardwalk and Park Place. He kicked our butts the first game but then lost the next two games because he spent all of his money on houses on these properties.

Today, I had to get out of the house because I was going crazy. If you know me well, you know that it’s difficult for me to just sit. Because I couldn’t see well because of the patch, I could not relax and even read a book. I had to sit and watch TV which was a big strain on my right eye.  We went to Red River to play in some snow and for Collin to compete in the frozen turkey dash which was using a frozen turkey to slide down the mountain. It was hilarious to watch. He did have to watch a few kids do it first before he decided he would do it too and lined up. He did not win but had a lot of fun.

After an amazing turkey dinner at a local BBQ place, we took the truck up the mountains in search of snow because there we not much on the ski mountain. The truck did great climbing and maneuvering around the turns. The view was amazing!!!  Collin found some snow to play in and was happy too.

“Are my muscles big?”

Collin has been focused on his biceps and his abs for about six weeks now. He said that he is focused on them because they hurt from all of the football practice and because they’re growing.  On a regular basis, he walks over to me, flexes, and asked me if his muscles are getting bigger. I have even caught him looking in the mirror at his flexed abs. I guess this is the life of a boy mom and I love it!!

Warriors Season is Over

The Warriors made it to the semi-finals game today.  They did not play as strong as we have seen them play in other games resulting in a loss. It was bittersweet to see them lose because the boys were sad, even Collin. However, it means we can head out on our Thanksgiving trip to days early because the team will not be playing in the final game.  I have to admit I’m a little happy about that. This means we can spend more time in Colorado hiking around the mountains and enjoying the scenery and each other more.

A Little Mountain Biking

We had a great time riding at a nearby mountain bike park with Collin and a friend of his, Jake.  I had not written my mountain bike like this before Collin was born. These are the same trails where I learned to ride my mountain bike so it was so much fun to ride them with my son. I couldn’t take any video or pictures during the ride because the boys were riding so fast that it was all I could do to keep up. We ended up riding about 11 miles of trails before we stopped and let them play in a very cold lake. It was hilarious to listen to them talk about the cold water air it touching there “parts”. They never swam but had fun running in and out of the water as fast as they  could trying to see who could run out the furthest and the fastest. Dad and I relaxed ... which really means Dad napped on a nearby picnic table while I watched the boys. We MUST do this again soon.

School Fall Festival

Collin had a great time at the school Fall festival. Most of the time, he played with the blow up hammers chasing and hitting his friends. It sounds bad but it’s harmless and what they do every year. When he got tired, he hung out with a friend he has known since Pre-K. It was good to see him hang out with a different friend. After it cleared out a little, he ran through the bouncy house obstacle course racing with a different friend. Dad was in charge of the General Store where the kids could buy things with tickets. We were are exhausted and hungry after the 4 hour festival was over.
